Karearea's little measuring machines!

The akonga in Karearea have become little measuring machines! We are learning about length, how we measure it, and the units we measure different things with. Centimetres and millimetres are hard words to say!
Today we did lots of measuring using our 30 cm rulers, and tomorrow we'll be going outside with our metre rulers looking to measure larger objects and areas. Ask your children what they measured today. :-)

Great job Maddie!

This young lady has had a tough time lately. She broke her arm way up high near her shoulder and had to be super careful not to hurt it again. This week she finally got out of her sling.
I'm super proud of her and also the kids in Karearea who were careful around her for so long. "No hugging!", was hard when we wanted her to feel better!

Great job Maddie, we're proud of you!

R-2-D-TUI!

Jake, Malakai, Remi, Tavish and I got very excited today. We saw a tui at lunchtime. It was singing away as we went closer and we were able to go right under the tree and listen! The boys thought his chirping sounded like R2D2 from Star Wars, so we called him R2DTui! We hope to have more tui around school and will be putting some traps down next term to try and protect tui eggs in the area.

KAREAREA'S OLYMPIC FRISBEE RELAY!

We had a lot of fun with a frisbee relay event last week. It was great to have some sunny afternoons and get outside for some Olympic fun! Our kids were in teams and had to use teamwork to get their frisbee across the finish line first. Chaos ensued! But it was great to see the kids work together to try and win their medals.
Then we gave the winners their medals and sang the National Anthem! Congrats to all the kids on a fantastic afternoon.
